The Legend of Corn Hollow

A well-known Nebraska legend takes place in a cornfield somewhere between Lincoln and Beatrice. One foggy night under the moonlight, Will and Dan from Corn Coast Brewing received a calling from what could only be explained as a witch scarecrow. To their surprise, Bryon from Stone Hollow Brewing was already there, talking with the scarecrow. All three gentlemen looked at each other, wondering if this was some Halloween hoax, but it wasn’t. The witch scarecrow told them to gather a couple of the ghoulish pumpkins to create a magical Pumpkin Ale. Bryon, Will, and Dan then set out to create this new legendary beer, Corn Hollow.

So, in my mind, this is how it all went down, but I understand you may see it differently. We can agree that this collaboration between the two breweries resulted in an amazing beer!

With the first sip, I am greeted by pumpkin pie spices: cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and nutmeg. A great spice blend that isn't overpowering and pairs well with the ale's ghoulish pumpkins. No shortcuts were taken — this beer was infused with cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, whole cloves, nutmeg, ginger root, and vanilla.

This medium-bodied ale has a warming ABV of around 8% and is perfect for a fire pit or a chilly Halloween night. This collaboration is great, and I hope the legend continues for many years!

Cheers!

In Search of the Great Pumpkin ... Ale

Schlafly Pumpkin Ale

Schlafly Pumpkin Ale

Just like Charlie Brown, I am in the search for the Great Pumpkin! The one I have been searching for is an ale with those amazing pumpkin pie spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. The presence of the spices needs to be well balanced with the ale. Too much cinnamon and might as well be having a Fireball. Not enough, then it is just another disappointment.

This year a friend gave me a Schlafly Pumpkin Ale to try. I was excited to see how this one would be because the prior selections were not hitting the mark this year.

Nice nose with the spices present. Pumpkin and caramel notes wrapped in the pumpkin pie spices. Mild carbonation and medium body that makes it an excellent sipper! This ale comes in at 8.0% ABV, which you notice on the backend with a bit of warming in your belly!

What an excellent pumpkin ale! So glad to get to try this one. I am looking forward to having other beers from Schlafly.

Cheers!
